民國三年(1914年)，北洋3軍閥政府正式鑄造袁世凱頭像銀幣，因幣上鑄有袁世凱側身頭像，故民間俗稱‘袁大頭’。民國三年鑄造的袁世凱銀幣有很多不同的版本，在正面的圖案是基本相同的，但是在背面的圖案和一些細節方面還是有所不同的。辛亥革命以後，袁世凱就任“臨時大總統”之職，後又成為正式大總統。當時，為了鞏固國內政局穩定，發展民族經濟，也為“制憲”和“稱帝”作準備，於是發佈《國幣條例》，毅然決定在全國“統一幣制”。
此枚為中華民國三年袁大頭(英文簽字版)。正面中間為袁世凱戎裝左側面像，上方為“中華民國三年”字樣，寓意民主、共和、憲政及君主立憲之思想希冀；在袁像右側刻有一豎行英文字母L.gioRgi、此版是為了紀念袁世凱銀元刻模的雕刻專家魯爾治•喬治，在袁像右側刻有一豎行英文字發行量少，為難得稀世珍品。背面為中間是漢字“壹圓” 周圍環嘉禾紋飾。古稱生長奇異的禾，古人以之為吉祥的徵兆。鑄幣之上寓意國家重視農桑、以民生為本。此枚錢幣為民國三年英文簽字版袁大頭，面值壹圓。其成色重量穩定，色澤光鮮自然，紋飾深淺適度，邊緣線條粗細均勻，間距也疏密一致。幣面設計精美，線條流暢，立體感強，包漿醇厚，保存完好。
